Material Frequently Asked Questions

Material FAQ

01

Are plant-based alternatives to plastic the future?

We believe they are! That’s why we’ve spent years working to realize our mission of replacing plastics with high-performance, plant-based alternatives that transition our world away from fossil fuels, help solve the issue of micro-plastics, and move to circular solutions.

Think: healthy, regenerative, low-carbon, zero compromise!

02

What sets you apart from other plastic alternatives?

Our plant-based plastic alternatives work and are ready to use. They are the highest-performing plant-based materials on the market. All our materials are designed as drop-in solutions, scaling rapidly to help our clients move quickly because we can’t work fast enough to meet the needs of this global problem of plastic pollution. Learn more about our plant-based alternatives and reach out to our experienced team at sales@vonholzhausen.com if you’re ready to start our journey together.

03

Why are so many brands starting to use your materials?

We know the pressure brands are under to meet growing governmental regulations, chemical bans, and consumer demands for healthier materials, all while still hitting their performance and price requirements. Our team of scientists and designers partner with the world’s leading brands to tackle these challenges, delivering materials at scale that leave the planet better off.

04

Can plastic be high-performance and biodegradable?

Absolutely! It all starts with how each molecule is designed. Our proprietary and patented formulations are engineered to withstand the toughest applications, yet they can biodegrade in a matter of years and even months when placed in a zero-oxygen environment aka a landfill. And when they break down, they actually nourish the environment, not poison it.

05

What about recycling you ask?

We can do that too! Because of the way it's designed, our Liquidplant® can be recycled over and over again without diminishing its performance characteristics. From sourcing to end-of-life, we create materials that flow through the loop, not clog it. Circularity isn’t a feature—it’s a framework.

06

How do you validate your claims like 100% plant-based and biodegradable?

We use 3rd party certifications and testing like Life Cycle Assessments, Carbon14 analysis, and performance data to validate all of our claims and measure our impact. This creates a culture of trust and transparency which can be passed on to our clients and their customers.

07

Why does design matter in sustainability?

Because people choose with their eyes and their values. Our materials and designs are made to inspire—not just check the eco box. Sustainability should look as good as it feels and that’s why we offer full solutions.

08

Where do you manufacture your materials?

Since our materials are made using standard manufacturing techniques and equipment, we have carefully vetted manufacturing partners on multiple continents to reduce lead times and costs to our customers. The localized manufacturing supports a lower carbon footprint and helps to navigate tariff fluctuations.

09

Are your materials expensive?

Our goal is to replace petroleum-based plastics at massive scale. That means we must be accessible and not just a novelty. Our materials are in-line with the price point of high quality, durable plastics and will become more widely available as we scale.
