Manufacturing Technician, Biochemistry

Los Angeles, California

Role: Manufacturing Technician, Biochemistry
Location: In-person at our Los Angeles Innovation Lab
Type: Full Time (not a day shift)

About Us

von Holzhausen is a fast-growing materials innovation company focused on replacing plastic with plant-based alternatives. We innovate industry-defining chemistries in our Los Angeles lab and create low-carbon materials made from plants, supplying them to large companies within industries like footwear, fashion, consume tech, and beyond.

We are scaling production of the polymers of the future, and we need hands-on operators to help us build and run our pilot production facility.

Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Manufacturing Technician to run and support pilot-scale production processes. This role is highly execution-focused and centered on operating equipment, running production, and keeping operations moving.

The ideal candidate is reliable, high-energy, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and output matters. This is not a purely research role—this is about building, running, and delivering material at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor pilot-scale process equipment to execute production runs
  • Prepare, run, and track production processes from start to finish
  • Record process data, observations, and outcomes with accuracy and consistency
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues in real time to keep production on track
  • Work closely with R&D and process teams to support scale-up and process improvements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following all EHS guidelines
  • Assist with equipment setup, changeovers, and general pilot line operations
  • Support increasing throughput, reliability, and consistency of pilot production

Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically active, hands-on work
  • Willingness to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and flexible shifts as needed
  • High energy, strong work ethic, and a production-first mindset
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, sometimes demanding environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team

What We’re Looking For

  • People who want to build and run processes, not just observe them
  • Individuals motivated by execution, output, and continuous improvement
  • Team players willing to step in wherever needed to keep operations moving
  • Operators who take ownership of their work and push to get production completed

Nice to Have

  • Background in chemistry, materials, or a related technical field
  • Experience operating process equipment, pilot systems, or manufacturing lines
  • Previous work in industrial labs, pilot production, or manufacturing environment

Why Join Us

  • Join a small, collaborative team where you’ll learn quickly and have real impact
  • Gain hands-on experience with innovative, plant-based materials
  • Work alongside experienced scientists, engineers, and operators
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits
  • 401(k) plan
  • Opportunity to grow your skills and responsibilities as the company scales

  • Develop and maintain SOPs for shipping, warehousing, and material handling
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, product, and finance teams to forecast demand and align supply
  • Troubleshoot issues in real-time—delays, damages, customs holdups—and proactively prevent future disruptions
  • Track KPIs such as on-time delivery, shipping cost per unit, and inventory turnover

What We’re Looking For

  • 6+ years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or operations, ideally with global shipping and 3PL oversight
  • Experience handling chemical shipments or familiarity with hazmat regulations (e.g., IATA, IMDG, DOT) strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of international shipping, customs clearance, and freight logistics
  • Experience managing 3PL partners and warehouse operations
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and documentation practices
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Proficient in inventory management systems, Excel/Google Sheets; experience with ERP or shipping software is a plus
  • Strong communication and vendor management skills

Why Join Us

  • Own a critical function that keeps our global supply chain moving
  • Join a fast-growing team and help shape the operational backbone of the business
  • Work closely with leadership on logistics strategy and improvements
  • Competitive salary, equity, and benefits
  • 401K plan
