As a design-first company, we’re always thinking beyond the material. After all, what’s the point of innovation if it can’t shape-shift into something extraordinary?
In this Q&A, we’re sharing a peek into the inspiration behind our third Liquidplant case study, The LP Loop, which explores how everyday products can be reimagined using our 100% plant-based plastic alternative.

Q: What problem are you solving through Liquidplant?
A: Plastic is everywhere and it’s not going anywhere. It breaks into microplastics and ends up in our bodies. We built Liquidplant to prove you don't need petroleum to make a high-performance material. Plants can do it better.
Q: What is LP Loop made of, and why a health band?
A: Liquidplant, a 100% plant-based performance material made with no toxins, no forever chemicals. We chose a health band because it's on your skin 24/7, and most people have no idea what’s in it. Microplastics rubbing against your skin, harmful chemicals hiding in plain sight, that concerns me as a designer. We wanted to show what a health band could be if you started from a completely different material philosophy.

Q: What does a plant-based plastic alternative say about the future of product design?
A: Technology moves fast. Materials don’t. Every generation gets smarter screens, faster processors, better software, but the materials underneath stay the same. Petroleum. Synthetics. Afterthoughts. We think that's where the real innovation gap is. Design shouldn’t just be about the surface. It should start from the core, from what something is actually made of. That’s what we're here to change.
Q: What's next for von Holzhausen?
A: LP Loop is one expression of what Liquidplant can be. We’re working on exciting projects with clients and internal case studies. What I’ll say is, think about every single contact point between your body and the ground. That’s where we're going next.
