We sat down with the vH creative team behind The LP Arc, our latest case study, to explore what happens when 3D printing starts with Liquidplant®.
Q: You previously designed The LP Slide using Liquidplant® foam. What inspired you to explore Liquidplant® filament for The LP Arc?
A: The LP Slide explored comfort, volume, and sculptural form through foam. With The LP ARC, we wanted to shift our focus toward structure. Filament gave us the opportunity to think layer by layer, revealing an internal framework instead of concealing it beneath a finished surface. It wasn’t about designing another shoe. It was about exploring how the same material platform could inspire a completely different design language. – vH Creative Director
Q: What did designing with Liquidplant® allow you to explore that wasn’t possible before?
A: Filament opened the door to a different way of expressing the material. Instead of focusing on the finished exterior, we could celebrate the architecture beneath it. Inspired by the structural elegance of Santiago Calatrava’s work, The LP ARC became an exploration of strength through efficiency, where every opening and every curve has a purpose. — vH Art Director
Q: This is the fifth Liquidplant® case study. Why is it important to continue exploring new applications?
A: Each case study expands our understanding of what Liquidplant can become. Rather than developing a single product, we’re building a material platform that can adapt to different manufacturing methods and industries. Every exploration helps designers imagine new possibilities while showing that one plant-based material can take many forms. — vH Creative Director
