If there’s one design movement perfectly suited to our times, it would undoubtedly be mid-century modern. Icons like Charles and Ray Eames, Richard Neutra, and John Lautner—pioneers of the Mid-Century Modernist movement—cherished the belief that design achieves its pinnacle by embracing the beauty and harmony of nature.
They favored clean lines, simplicity, authentic materials, and expansive glass surfaces blurring the line between indoors and outdoors—a serene retreat in uncertain times.
Inspired by this ethos, we shot the the Eames® Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Herman Miller® created in a custom version of Banbū, our innovative plant-based material, against the backdrop of Richard Neutra’s 1948 masterpiece, the Tremaine House in Montecito, California.
This modern reinterpretation blends timeless style with sustainable innovation, honoring the spirit of those visionary designers. Clean lines? Check. Minimalist aesthetic? Check. Environmental responsibility? Check.
If the measure of successful design and material innovation is whether they uplift people’s spirits, then the answer is a resounding “yes.”
