Locale Love: Malibu Hike
One of Malibu’s most treasured - and arguably most beautiful – spots is Point Dume natural preserve. Point Dume is literally a Point that juts out into the Pacific Ocean and features beautiful headlands with wildflowers, cliffs, a beach and rocky coves.
Arrive early in the morning and hike up Big Dume. It’s a mild hike but offers stunning views encompassing the entire Santa Monica Bay, north Malibu and the inland Santa Monica Mountains. Just below the summit is a boardwalk that leads to a viewing platform where you can sit quietly and watch the seals sunbathe on the rocks below (and – if you’re lucky – spot a whale in the water) or watch the sun set in the evening.
An almost hidden stairway gives access to a very quiet beach, a favorite with local surfers. Point Dume is Malibu in all its natural glory and a great place to reflect and recharge.
